Introducing Tightrope – Balancing Duty with Courage and Conviction
After months of writing, cutting, adding, reworking, and bravely editing, it’s finally here. My book, Tightrope: Balancing Duty with Courage and Conviction is now available.
I’ve said this many times throughout my life and career: no one walks their journey alone. Not in policing, not in leadership, not in healing, and certainly not in writing a book. Whether we’re facing moments of success or moments of failure, there are always people beside us, guiding, supporting, challenging, and encouraging.
Tightrope was one of the most meaningful journeys I’ve ever taken. And if I’m honest, I know the journey is actually just beginning, not ending. But there are so many people who helped bring it to life.
There were those who read the earliest versions. Those who reviewed drafts. Those who told me what should stay and what absolutely needed to go. Those who challenged me to dig deeper. And those who encouraged me when I doubted whether this story was worth sharing.
And then there were the hundreds of messages I received from people I’ve never met — messages telling me that a post I wrote resonated, that a story I shared mattered, that they too were carrying things they didn’t feel they could say out loud. Those messages pushed me forward more than you know.
You might think that after 26 years in policing, running toward danger, holding rank, and leading in some of the toughest environments, that nothing would scare me. But the truth is, I still have moments of deep self-doubt. Times when I’m afraid of judgment or failure. Times when I wonder if I’ve said too much … or not enough.
But I’ve learned something important: Fear is the body’s way of saying something meaningful is about to happen.
Tightrope is not a memoir, it is a message. A message about courage, about conviction, about carrying heavy things, and still finding a way to step into the next chapter with purpose and sometimes even with a smile on your face.
If you choose to read it, my hope is simple: That you feel connected. That you feel less alone. That you feel seen. And that you remember you can go through something life-changing and still rise again with a spring in your step.
